Tiivistelmä
This thesis investigates operational inefficiencies leading to milk spoilage at Verka’s Faridkot warehouse, a critical node in Punjab’s dairy supply chain. The objective is to propose practical, low-cost interventions to mitigate spoilage and enhance cold chain integrity. A Current State Analysis (CSA) was conducted through interviews, site observations, and operational data analysis, revealing two primary issues: lack of real-time temperature monitoring and delayed microbial quality testing. To address these, a conceptual framework was developed using insights from dairy logistics literature and stakeholder feedback. The proposed interventions include implementing IoT-enabled temperature sensors with alert systems and deploying rapid microbial test kits (such as resazurin-based colorimetric assays). These recommendations were validated in structured discussions with warehouse staff and refined based on their practical insights, such as adding battery backups, printed scoring charts, and escalation protocols. The study emphasizes procedural governance through Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), staff training, and stakeholder accountability to ensure long-term effectiveness. The final output is a three-pronged, actionable strategy ready for pilot implementation. The project offers a replicable model for reducing spoilage in dairy logistics by combining digital tools, quality testing, and governance reform in a field-driven, stakeholder-inclusive manner.
