Tiivistelmä
In order to render healthcare services of good quality, biomedical equipment need to be effectively maintained and repaired. Many health facilities, especially in developing regions, cannot maintain their medical devices due to lack of technical expertise, mass procurement costs, or spare parts. The study, therefore, navigates through a study of feasibility, design, and implementation of a centralized biomedical equipment repair centre to mitigate the situation.

The research studies the current maintenance paradigms and makes a case for centralized systems while pointing out discrepancies in decentralized ones operating on the premise that hospitals manage the equipment repairs on their own. The systems are thus proposed to minimize resource utilization, downtime, and ensure compliance with safety standards. Assessing the economics and operations of the central repair centre, the factors looked at remain those of cost effectiveness, specialization of the workforce, and compliance with regulations.

Through case studies, expert interviews, and quantitative studies, findings reveal that the avenue of a centralized repair centre leads to the improvement of life of equipment, reduced repair costs, and improved service delivery in health care. In conclusion, the establishment of such a centre would improve the biomedical equipment maintenance process, promote safety to patients, and ensure sustainability of health care infrastructure. It makes further recommendations on policy reform, investment avenues, and implementation strategy implemented incrementally to enhance the chances of sustainability.
