Tiivistelmä
This thesis was conducted as a part of a summer internship at Metso, a global industrial company, and focused on the author’s professional development through practical work with Salesforce, stakeholder communication, and agile system development. The purpose of the thesis was to analyze how the internship tasks contributed to the author's personal growth and professional competencies, with particular emphasis on system usability, productivity, and collaborative work in IT tasks. The scope of the report was limited to activities carried out during the internship period, primarily involving Salesforce configuration, deployment processes, and stakeholder interaction. The theoretical framework was built around Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory and supported by models of professional growth such as transformational learning, metacognition, and theories of communication and power dynamics in workplace settings.
The thesis was implemented as a diary-based research project. Weekly reflections were rec- orded and analyzed using thematic content analysis. Key themes included communication with stakeholders, development of practical Salesforce skills, and teamwork in agile system development. The data was collected over an eight-week period and supported by insights gained from actual project participation, training sessions, stakeholder meetings, and problem-solving activities related to Salesforce deployment and troubleshooting. The study also included feedback from colleagues and supervisors, which contributed to deeper reflection and learning.
The findings indicate that the internship significantly supported the author's professional development. The author improved in areas such as technical problem-solving, clear communication, documentation practices, and adaptability in complex environments. Challenges encountered during deployment and configuration tasks highlighted the importance of consistency across system environments and proactive communication. The internship also demonstrated the value of a supportive team environment in fostering confidence and learning. The thesis concludes that experiential learning in real work settings, guided by reflection and relevant theory, can greatly enhance a student’s readiness for future professional roles.
