Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis was to design and develop a smart home monitoring system which is capable of
tracking environmental factors to promote healthy and energy-efficient living spaces. The motivation for this
study can be seen in the growing global interest in home automation and climate-conscious technology. The
thesis is also aimed to build a cheap and scalable prototype that could measure temperature, humidity, air
quality, UV Light Intensity and Sound level detection and relay the information to users in real time through
mobile app.
The process includes the development of electronic circuits with sensors such as the DHT22 for temperature
and humidity, the GUVA-S12SD for ultraviolet light, and the LM386 for sound detection and programming of the
microcontroller (ESP8266) to communicate with these sensors. The system was developed using Arduino tech nology and connects to the Blynk mobile application for user interaction. To check the system, testing was done
to confirm the accuracy of the sensors and the response of the system.
The outcome of the study revealed that the system was designed successfully and it effectively monitor several
environmental parameters and presented timely updates via the mobile application. Based on the outcome of
the study, it is concluded that the combination of these IoT sensors with smart home technology can significantly
improve environmental monitoring. Ultimately, this developmental project contributed to the developing field of
home automation through the encouragement of the use of IoT system in increasing environmental awareness
and user comfort in smart home automation system.
