Tiivistelmä
This thesis investigates investment opportunities for Finnish companies in Nepal’s cleantech sector, with a particular focus on hydropower. In Nepal, their total hydropower capacity amounts to 83,000 MW, whereas the economically and technically feasible potential stands at 43,000 MW. Nepal has faced challenges in powering its national energy requirements because its electricity generation reached only 700 MW during the 2011 year-end. The poor utilisation of sustainable energy resources creates an essential investment opportunity that Finnish experts can leverage to bring their knowledge to this market sector.

The research serves the Centre for Environment and Energy (CEE) by providing information through its website, which supports Finnish small and medium enterprises seeking to enter Nepal's emerging cleantech market. The research implements qualitative methods that combine desktop research with expert interviews and evaluation of second-hand documents like official reports, academic papers, and news articles. Liberalised foreign investment policies of Nepal, together with energy sector tax exemptions, make Finland-based businesses experience favourable market conditions. The hydropower sector leads the cleantech market at present, but water and waste management represent encouraging expansion opportunities for the future.

The strong diplomatic and trade ties between Nepal and Finland improve the possibility for cooperative ventures between the two countries. Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program. This research provides key strategic guidance and recommendation for Finnish small and medium businesses that seek to enter Nepal's cleantech market, where targeted investment initiatives and cooperative partnerships will benefit both countries economically as well as environmentally.
