This study examines the tinting machine upgradation project at ACI Formulations Ltd. in Bangladesh, which aimed to improve operational efficiency by increasing the colour dispensing capacity from 2,000 to 4,000 shades. The project focused on enhancing productivity and service delivery through the replacement of Dramatone tinters with Aquatone systems, responding to market demands and technical advancements in the decorative paints sector.
A qualitative case study approach was adopted to explore the implementation process and its impact. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with key stakeholders involved in the project and analysis of internal company documents. This methodology enabled a comprehensive understanding of both strategic and operational aspects of the upgrade, as well as the human factors influencing its success.
The study identified key challenges in logistics, technical calibration, and dealer resistance. These were successfully addressed through phased rollout, adaptive training, and strong vendor collaboration. The findings highlight strategic benefits such as enhanced dealer satisfaction, improved internal capabilities, and better alignment with project management principles. The study concludes that localized training, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration are critical for technology-driven transformations in emerging markets. It offers practical recommendations for managing retrofit projects and underscores the importance of people-centred, adaptive project management in driving long-term business growth.
