Tiivistelmä
This thesis examines the challenges of potable water supply in Akok-Ndoé I, a neighborhood in Yaoundé, Cameroon, highlighting the critical issues faced by urban poor communities in accessing safe drinking water. Despite Cameroon’s abundant water resources, inadequate management and infrastructural deficits have led to severe water scarcity and contamination, particularly in rapidly urbanizing areas. The study reveals that a significant portion of the population relies on unsafe water sources, resulting in high incidences of waterborne diseases. Through a mixed-methods approach, including field observations and surveys, the research investigates the current state of water supply, identifies key stakeholders, and assesses the socio-economic impacts on residents.
Recommendations for improving access to potable water focus on enhancing infrastructure, implementing household water treatment solutions, and fostering community engagement. The findings underscore the urgent need for policy interventions to address water management challenges and improve public health outcomes in Akok-Ndoé I. This research contributes to the broader discourse on sustainable water supply strategies in urban African contexts.
