Tiivistelmä
This study aimed to examine the use of robotic technologies in geriatric palliative care settings and how these technologies support elderly patients. A qualitative descriptive literature review was carried out to gather data on the application and impact of various robotic systems in this context.

Data were collected from peer-reviewed empirical studies published between 2018-2024, focusing on developed countries with advanced healthcare systems. A total of 10 primary studies were selected for analysis, covering different aspects of robotic technology, this includes socially assistive robots, telepresence robots, and mobility aids.

The results showed that robotic technologies improve the social interaction and emotions of elderly patients, reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation. Therapeutic robots like PARO have been discussed to decrease agitation and enhance mood among patients and their family members, helping maintain emotional bond providing support remotely.

These findings suggest that robotic technologies could contribute to enhancing the quality of life for elderly patients in palliative care by improving social interaction, offering emotional support, and providing ongoing care service solutions. They also note the potential for these technologies to reduce the burden on healthcare systems and enhance the efficiency of care delivery.

However, to succeed robotic technology integration in geriatric palliative care, challenges to the acceptance among patients and healthcare providers should be addressed, ethical considerations and long-term sustainability of technology use as well should be discussed. Further research is recommended to explore the long-term impacts of robotic interventions in diverse healthcare environments.
