Tiivistelmä
This study concerns the construction industry and in particular a relationship between the case company as a façade specialist and their large suppliers of metal, steel, aluminum, glass, and another material for building envelope and façade solutions in Thailand.
The study uses the Applied action research approach and qualitative data collection, especially relying on internal document analysis, participant observations, and interviews. The study starts with setting the objective based on the business context and business challenge of the construction industry projects at the case company, before turning to specific relationship describing their partner companies and material suppliers, which relates to ordering, planning and manufacturing in the production facilities, as well as on the construction site.
Important issues in materials procurement and tracing related KPIs are identified in the current state analysis and presented open for discussion with internal stakeholders in relation to project lifecycle, partner companies and supply chains. The theoretical framework is built around the topics of data visibility of materials procurement in projects for the construction industry and collaboration between teams.
The study provides the outcome of a list of recommended KPIs that can be used in a shared manner for the KPIs monitoring by the two leading teams, Design and Procurement, at the case company, and thus improve visibility to materials procurement in construction projects. The outcome is validated based on expert judgement via interviews and discussions in the organization for improving data visibility of materials procurement.
