Tiivistelmä
This thesis provides an overview on security authentication and identification, as well as focusing on existing methods such as OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0, SAML, HighTrust, FINTrust and Single Sign-On. The research is conducted as a theoretical study in the field of data protection. It provides insight on how the above frameworks contribute to safe and reliable access to digital services.
The current authentication and identification methods are assessed and evaluated in the present thesis. To explain the requirements as well as, advantages and disadvantages of related techniques, the thesis analyses a technical document, a safety guide and an exploration report. The results of the analysis show that, compared with traditional methods such as passwords, current authentication and identification schemes provide greater security and better usability. The federation identity, together with the adoption of HighTrust and FINTrust in Finland, provides safe digital access to the various services.
