The objective of this thesis is to develop an outline (tech. architecture etc.) for an inhouse ERP system, for managing individual life policies for case company. It addresses business challenges pertaining to vendor dependency and high cost for using the vendor-based ERP system.
The most appropriate research approach for this thesis is applied action research, using qualitative research methods. Data for this thesis was gathered from interviews through three different data collection rounds. The current state analysis disclosed strengths and weaknesses in the current ERP system (Pentasoft) of the case company. Strengths include strong integration and excellent Oracle-based infrastructure, reliable cybersecurity and weaknesses are operational lag, manual shariah compliance and underwriting, and lack of embedded analytics. The current state analysis findings guided the selection of focus areas and literature review guided the selection of themes, tools and best practices which further assist to form the conceptual framework for the thesis.
The outcome of this thesis is an outline for the in-house ERP development for the case company. The outline consists of ERP foundation, ERP architectural aspects, best practices and methodologies and key focus areas highlighted in CSA. The outline proposes the key operational and technical requirements for in-house ERP development through ERP foundational pillars, architectural layers, phased business practices and guiding principles for key focus areas. The expected business impact includes reducing the cost and limiting the dependency over external vendor.
