Tiivistelmä
The objective of this thesis was to improve the management of indirect procurement within a compressor manufacturing company. The starting point was that there were no dedicated procurement personnel for this task, and it was done by white-collar employees of other departments. To improve the process, the problem areas were identified, and proper tools were reviewed.
This thesis was a case study and both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used in the form of observation and questionnaires, which were sent to all white-collar employees at the target site of the case company. Theoretical background included relevant concepts of procurement and purchasing, importance of efficiency, risk management and the use of ERP solutions.
Based on the results of the questionnaire and analysis of theory, problems in the internal processes and responsibilities were identified. It became evident that there is need for more in-depth instructions for the factory site workers in production. In the process of clarifying the process, responsibilities and instructions, all indirect procurement process steps not completed in the ERP-systems were described in such a way that it helps people to work more efficiently. Also, the responsibilities of each department contributing to indirect procurement process of the case company were identified and mapped out.
As a concrete result, a purchasing manual was created to guide the people involved in the indirect procurement process at the targeted factory site. The guide was received well by the stakeholders and was considered to improve the communication and process. The impact of this thesis is expected to improve the work satisfaction of white-collar employees in the company in the future.
