This thesis investigates the impact of robotics and automation on warehouse operations, focusing on productivity improvements and workforce transformation. As automation becomes more common in logistics, understanding its operational and human implications is critical for sustainable adoption.
The study uses a qualitative approach, including a case study of DHL Express Finland’s automated warehouse, supported by surveys and secondary research. The methodology emphasizes triangulation to ensure rigor, though findings are limited by their context-specific nature. AI was used in the research process for guidance and planning.
Results show that automation enhances efficiency and reduces errors without replacing employees. Instead, it transforms job roles, creating demand for new technical skills. The study highlights the need for strategic workforce planning to support employees through these changes.
