Many different businesses in the age of data and technology utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to minimize human labor and maximize profits. However, there has not been much existing research on AI's application in research and funding management tasks. Stemming from the author’s internship work placement is developing a Salesforce licensed project for research service; this thesis explores the implementation of the Salesforce AI platform for managing research (related) administrative tasks and associated data management in research funding organizations. Because it has not been thoroughly studied in earlier studies, this is an uncommon topic; the exploratory method design is the most appropriate adoption for this subject.
The thesis examines the possible drawbacks and advantages of using Salesforce (AI) based platforms to improve research and granting activities. Furthermore, the academic goal is to link the theoretical knowledge acquired in Haaga Helia School's business information technology degree program with real world organizational applications. The scope includes an introduction to the overview of research activities at research institutions in Finland; for building a theoretical foundation for the evaluations and conclusions, the concepts of the Higher Education Reference Model (HERM) and the DeLone & McLean Information System (IS) Success are introduced, together with referring to a typical research project life cycle and application process. The content also provides details on the research methodology and data collection methods, including interviews and surveys, along with a summary and the writer's personal reflections.
This project relies primarily on data collected from interviews with several Salesforce consultants and users, as well as secondary research from previously similar works, due to the author's limited availability and knowledge base. The findings have also demonstrated the ability of the writer to apply theoretical knowledge in practice while simultaneously developing a portfolio of Salesforce (related) skills for future employment.
