Why is feminism essential in economics?

Abstract

This thesis consists of findings on the topic of feminist economics and why feminist perspectives are essential and still needed today. The paper argues that the gender gap leads to more inequality, which consequently affects the quality of life for all. There are some practical solutions to issues that societies face. There remain many who want to advocate a more conservative political or religious agenda with respect to gender roles by mispresenting statistical data or ignoring it fully. Because feminism still raises a lot of debates, it is an indicator that it is still very much needed. The thesis will give insight into gender inequality and, specifically, certain attitudes directed towards women. The thesis addresses real-world issues, and some practical solutions are provided. Women’s economic empowerment cannot solve everything, of course, but it would represent a major contribution to improving overall economic wellbeing.
