Producing drum & bass music : INFREQUENCY – self titled EP

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to provide an overview of standard music production methods used in drum and bass music. It serves as a guide for anyone who wants to learn about music production or improve their production skills. The thesis uses INFREQUENCY´s self-titled EP as a case study. The thesis peeks into the methods of music production, also from a general perspective. It covers the main parts of production, including planning, composing, recording, mixing, and mastering.

The thesis includes a media section of five songs, used as a practical example, and the production process for creating all the songs will be described step by step in the report. Basic production methods and tools, such as EQ, compression, and gain staging, are covered as these tracks are produced.

The results of the thesis emphasize the importance of basic knowledge of using tools, such as EQ and Compression, and how important in drum and bass it is, to have a good production, especially in the live environment. The majority of data is collected through a case study with the production of INFREQUENCY EP and using own experiences as a reference. Also, books and media articles were used to gather information about the subject.
