The objective of this thesis was to develop a structured requirements management framework for the case company, a growing IT consultancy. The need for developing a relevant framework came from challenges of using informal practices, which leads to inconsistent project results. Issues like unclear requirements, scattered documentation, and unstructured change management often caused misunderstandigns between stakeholders, rework, and project delays.
This thesis was realized by using the applied action research methond and qualitative data collection. Data was gathered in three phases: semi-structured interviews with stakeholders and collaborative workshops where findings were validated. The theoretical framework of this thesis focused on best practices in requirements management and business analysis, where essential topics such as standardized elicitation, formalized documentation, and structured change management were covered.
The practical part starts with the current state analysis, which revealed weaknesses of current requirements management processes of the company. The proposal for the framework was built by utilizing insights and observations from the interviews, documentation and available knowledge. The proposal includes a standardized elicitation process, a centralized documentation platform, and a structured workflosh for managing changes in requirements.
The outcome of the thesis is a Structured Requirements Management Framework, which has been validated by experts within the case company. This framework aims to improve clarity in projects, reduce scope creep, and establish a more consistent method for managing requirements. Its implementation is anticipated to make project delivery more predictable, improve collaboration between teams and clients, and boost the company’s operational efficiency and long-term competitiveness.
