Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this study was to describe or investigate how Covid-19 infection and long Covid affect elderly people cognitive function over long term and to increase knowledge of the Covid-19 infections impacts on elderly people cognitive function. Mainly, the study was focused on identifying which cognitive domains are most impacted, such as memory, attention, and executive function.
The thesis was carried out as a descriptive literature review, and the data was collected from the CINAHL and PubMed between 2020-2025. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were used for filtering or redefining the search. To increase knowledge of the covid 19 infection’s impacts on elderly people’s cognitive functions, 12 articles were selected based on our research questions. These selected articles were analysed using inductive content analysis to answer the two research questions.
The study showed how COVID 19 had affected elderly people's long-term cognitive function, especially in memory impairments included both short-term and long-term memory. This thesis can be used by nursing students to deepen and enhance their knowledge of how COVID 19 has affected elderly people cognitive function.
