This thesis is dedicated to the problem of standardization of supplier evaluation. The case company of the thesis is an international building materials manufacturer.
The research approach is a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Data is collected via interviews, observations, and analysis of internal documents. The theoretical framework is based on a combination of category management, supplier classification, supplier relationship management, and supplier performance management that together provide the foundation for examining procurement practices, for providing a well-rounded and detailed exploration of the problem at the case company. Data analysis was conducted using Microsoft Excel and Power BI to analyse and visualize the findings.
The outcome of the thesis is a proposal for a supplier selection process and a set of key performance indicators. The case company utilizes these results to align its branches in the supplier selection and evaluation process. In addition, other areas are recommended for future enhancements, such as improving the internal IT system, providing procurement-related training, offering tailored solutions to practical challenges, and enabling real-time supplier tracking.
