This thesis aims to improve the usability of the Energy Walk concept, a design concept created within the Enertelligence project to support SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) in energy optimization by conceptualizing and adding three new functions: an emergency alert button, a maintenance section, and an AI-based chatbot.
The design process was implemented according to the double diamond framework, where Figma and Miro were used, and experiments were conducted with the placement of buttons, icons, and types of interactions. Designers also provided feedback to enhance the features and make them simple and easy to understand. The alert button enhances workplace safety by reducing reporting time, the maintenance section enables predictive maintenance, which saves energy and avoids downtimes, and the AI chatbot provides immediate help with energy saving decision-making. Combined, these features help enhance employee engagement, decision-making, and bridge the gap between high-level energy goals.
The results indicate that when digital features are created properly, they can encourage SMEs to embrace sustainable activities because energy management becomes more engaging and achievable.
