Tiivistelmä
Osteoporosis is a common chronic disease with a high occurrence with regard to postmenopausal women; it has been recognized as a major issue of concern to the public health according to its high frequency of fractures, mobility impairment, as well as reduced quality of life. The most effective way of preventing the condition and ensuring successful aging is the early identification and proper management during the primary care. Nurses playy a significant role in postmenopausal osteoporosis management. This study aims to produce new knowledge about the nursing interventions that are already implemented and the challenges perceived in caring for women with postmenopausal osteoporosis in primary health care.

The study in this paper is a descriptive literature review. Data were gathered using the CINAHL, PubMed and Medline databases through Metropolia LibGuides through systematic search. Search was limited to scientific, peer-reviewed articles which had been published between 2015 and 2025. Articles were filtered on the basis of title, abstract, and full text to include and exclude them on predetermined criteria and finally seven articles were chosen to be included in the review.

The results revealed that the nurses use various interventions in osteoporosis management which include standardizing care and clinical follow-up, enhancing communication and access, patient education and counselling, lifestyle support and exercise interventions and promoting adherence and patient engagement. On the contradictory, lack of resources, knowledge gaps, attitudinal and health related issues, and socioeconomic and policy related barriers limited the effectiveness of these interventions. The review highlights the need to improve professional training, interprofessional cooperation, and policy-level assistance to strengthen the position of nurses in managing osteoporosis.

The review adds to the knowledge on how nursing interventions may enhance the outcomes and patient-centred care among postmenopausal osteoporotic women. The findings defend the standardisation of nursing protocols and lifelong learning as ways of dealing with the challenges identified and attaining effective and evidence-based care delivery in primary care facilities.
