Ocean transportation constitutes a complex and essential component of global logistics and has experienced heightened demand and substantial growth in recent years. This rapid expansion of maritime activities has introduced a range of challenges related to seaport infrastructure and port operations. Increasing demand, combined with aging or insufficient infrastructure, has compelled many port operators to seek comprehensive and cost-effective solutions for optimizing vessel traffic flow. One potential response to these growing needs is the adoption of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly referred to as drones.
The use of drones in maritime operations represents a notable example of innovative, safe, and efficient technological advancement within port environments. UAVs can be strategically deployed for traffic management, pollution monitoring, search and rescue operations, and inventory control. Nevertheless, the integration of drone technology also introduces distinct risks that require careful assessment and effective management.
Accordingly, the objective of this thesis is to examine the current challenges and potential hazards associated with the use of drones in port operations and to propose viable solutions to mitigate these risks.
