Tiivistelmä
Type 2 diabetes is becoming more common in adults who experience multimorbidity, functional and cognitive impairment, and social isolation, which complicates its management. Telehealth provides flexible and ongoing care, and nurses are the core of providing education, monitoring, emotional support, and coordination. Nevertheless, there are also barriers to telehealth. The purpose of this study was to describe telehealth-based nursing for adults with T2DM. This study aimed to produce new knowledge regarding telehealth-based nursing support for adults with T2DM and the barriers encountered. This study was a descriptive literature review. Inductive content analysis was applied to 07 peer-reviewed studies (2015-2025) found in CINAHL and PubMed.

The review identified two categories of nursing supports provided through telehealth for adults with T2DM, including promoting proper diabetic management by enhancing selfmonitoring, continuity, and communication, and it serves as a motivational factor, thus improving confidence and autonomy. The barriers were categorised into those that were perceived by nurses (lack of training, less emotional attachment, organizational barriers) and by the patient (digital barriers, emotional detachment, preferring face-to-face care). The adoption of telehealth can be facilitated by using simple online tools, educating nurses in structured training, providing technical assistance to patients, and using hybrid care models, which combine online and face-to-face interaction.
