The topic of this thesis was developing digital hospitality at Sodankylä municipality and discover how tourism information is organized in other municipalities in Finnish Lapland in the digital age. The commissioner was Sodankylä municipality, which is situated in the middle of Finnish Lapland. The research part of the study talked about the current state of tourism information practices and provided the necessary guidelines to the commissioner, on whether it is necessary for them to organize a future physical tourism information centre.
The knowledge base of the thesis was based on key concepts such as hospitality, digital customer experience and tourism industry. The implementation of the thesis was qualitative thematic interviews, which featured four executives of Finnish Lapland’s tourism information centres. In addition, content analysis was used to collect information about how tourism information is currently organized in Sodankylä.
The results of the study showed that tourism information practices are increasingly digitally mediated. The results of the thesis were used to create an overview of the organization of tourism information in Finnish Lapland and the manifestation of hospitality in the digital age. The results can be used by Sodankylä municipality and tourism companies in Finnish Lapland as a basis for further development.
