Tiivistelmä
The problem of cybersecurity has reached great importance in the times of digitalization when students rely on the internet because of academic, social, and professional requirements more and more frequently. The proposed research will present a research design that will examine the cybersecurity awareness and Internet safety of university students. The research adheres to quantitative research design and proposes the application of descriptive survey method to collect the data of a planned population (40-50 university students). The main data collection instrument the prototype of which is a structured questionnaire, includes the section of demographic information, knowledge of cybersecurity threats, online safety behavior, risky online behavior, the source of cybersecurity information and perception of cybersecurity importance among students. The analysis of the future collected data will be analyzed using frequencies and percentages as indicators of data analysis.

The suggested framework will aim at assessing whether the students share a moderate degree of awareness about the typical cybersecurity risks and reveal possible loopholes in their data security habits. This prototype study has laid down the groundwork to the future empirical research by laying the foundation of a tool to quantify risky online behaviors, such as using unsecured Wi-Fi networks to perform sensitive transactions or share online personal information. Finally, this research design underlines the need to enhance cybersecurity education/awareness programs in universities, which offers a systematic approach, through which the institution would know when to implement specific workshops, training, and awareness initiatives to ensure that students behave responsibly online.
