Tiivistelmä
The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent sanctions imposed between 2022 and 2025 fundamentally reshaped Russia’s logistics system, trade geography and integration into global markets. Sanctions disrupted established transport routes, raised transaction and insurance costs, and redirected freight flows toward Asian and southern corridors.

This thesis examines how sanctions transformed logistics processes in Russia and evaluates their implications for global supply chains. The study applies a qualitative, theoretical-descriptive approach based on secondary data, including official statistics, analytical reports and academic literature.

The analysis shows that logistics functions as a primary transmission channel of sanctions: restrictions on transport infrastructure, maritime insurance and routing translated institutional measures into higher costs, longer delivery distances and greater dependence on a narrow group of non-Western partners. Russia’s trade reorientation toward China, India and Türkiye enhanced geographic diversification but simultaneously deepened structural dependence and logistical vulnerability.

The findings demonstrate that sanctions produced long-term, path-dependent changes in Russia’s logistics networks and contributed to broader geopolitical fragmentation of global supply chains. The study highlights the strategic role of logistics in shaping economic resilience under sanctions and provides a basis for further research on the interaction between geopolitics, transport systems and global value chains.
