Tiivistelmä
The aim of this study was to develop a supplier performance evaluation system to objectively assess the suppliers´ performance against pre-defined criteria. With the help of the new tool, the case company should be able to monitor its suppliers´ performance continuously and have a more systematic approach of providing feedback to suppliers. The current practices did not support the continuous improvement or align with the company´s strategic objectives.
The study was conducted as action research and qualitative methods, such as AEIOU guided observations, document analysis, earlier supplier performance evaluation records, and semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders. Additional data was collected from multiple company systems. The theoretical framework focused on supplier relationship management, supplier performance management and supplier performance evaluation.
The practical part started with analyzing the current practices and identifying their main gaps. In the practical part, the study focused on developing a supplier performance evaluation tool and a scorecard with standardized key performance criteria covering commercial, operational, technical and quality aspects.
The main outcome of the thesis is the new tool that makes the process more efficient, reduces manual work and supports procurement to identify additional opportunities to utilize AI. Additionally, the scorecard improves communication with suppliers and provides a clear format for presenting performance results. The outcome of the thesis should enhance transparency and consistency in supplier performance evaluation process.
