Background: Leadership in aged care settings is significant in influencing performance, staff well-being and quality of care delivered to aged care residents. As aged care services are becoming increasingly complex, leadership is crucial in promoting sustainable workforce practices and quality care.
Objectives: The aim of this study is to explore the impact of leadership styles in aged care settings and determine the influence of leadership styles on organisational outcomes, workforce, and quality of care.
Design and Methods: The current study is a scoping review, and it is conducted based on the methodological framework developed by Arksey and O’Malley (2005). The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) approach is also followed for the current scoping review. A total of 10 articles published from 2015 to 2026 are selected for the current study. The articles are retrieved from three major online databases: PubMed, CINAHL, and ProQuest. A thematic approach is followed to extract the data and to identify key patterns from the articles.
Results: The study results show that the leadership style of the manager impacts the engagement of the staff and the level of job satisfaction and quality of care outcomes. The study also found that the leadership style of the manager impacts the performance and innovation of the aged care service organization through effective communication and empowerment of the staff.
Conclusion: The study concludes that effective leadership plays a crucial role in improving the stability of the workforce and the quality of care in aged care service organizations. The study suggests that effective leadership can improve the quality of care by encouraging supportive leadership approaches and leadership development programs.
