Harrastajateatteri tähtää taiteellisesti korkeaan lopputulokseen

Abstract

Tämä opinnäytetyö keskittyy tekijänsä työtapaan ohjata taiteellisesti arvokas esitys harrastajateatterissa. Työssä käytetään tekijän kokemuksia hänen aikaisemmista ohjauksistaan ja verrataan niitä teatterikirjallisuuteen. Keskeisenä menetelmänä opinnäytetyössä on oman työskentelyn reflektointi.

Tekijä lähtee kysymyksestä, onko harrastajateatteri oikea paikka ohjaajalle pyrkiä taiteellisesti relevanttiin esitykseen, kun harrastajat koostuvat eritasoista harrastajanäyttelijöistä.

Opinnäytetyö jakautuu seitsemään lukuun. Ensimmäinen luku on johdanto, joka avaa opinnäytetyön sisällön. Toinen luku perustelee, miksi tekijä antaa enemmän lisäarvoa esityksen lopputulokselle kuin sille, että painopiste olisi prosessikeskeisyydessä. Tekijä tarkastelee teatteriharrastajien motiiveja, jotka edesauttavat tai puolestaan haastavat tekijää ohjaajana silloin kun päämäärät ovat fokusoituneet esityksen lopputulokseen. Kolmannessa luvussa tekijä avaa omaa persoonallisuuttaan ja taustojaan ohjaajana. Neljännessä luvussa tekijä kertoo motiiveistaan tehdä teatteria ja hahmottaa työmetodinsa ohjaustyössä. Viidennessä luvussa tekijä pohtii harrastajateatteria työympäristönä ohjata taiteellisesti relevantti esitys. Siinä tekijä pohtii, miten tekstinäytelmän ja työryhmälähtöisen esityksen ohjaukset eroavat toisistaan harrastajateatterissa. Kuudes luku pitää sisällään tekijän prosessikuvauksen tämän ohjaamasta harrastajateatteriesityksestä, minkä kautta lukijalle hahmottuu paremmin, mitä taiteellisesti korkeaan lopputulokseen pyrkiminen kyseisessä produktiossa on ollut. Seitsemäs luku pitää sisällään loppupohdinnan prosessikuvauksen yhteenvedosta ja opinnäytteen aiheesta.

Lopussa tekijä päätyy lopputulokseen, että taiteellisesti korkealaatuinen esitys on mahdollista toteuttaa harrastajateatterissa. Tekstipohjaisen esityksen toteuttaminen on suhteessa vaikeampaa ja vaatii kovemman työpanoksen verrattuna työryhmälähtöiseen esitykseen.

This thesis focuses on the author’s working method, how to direct artistically high-level performance in the amateur theatre. The author’s experiences from his previous directions are discussed and compared to theatrical studies and literature. Self-reflection is used as a method.

The thesis starts with a question: Is an amateur theatre the right place for a theatre director to aim at artistically relevant performance when the work group consists of amateur actors with various acting skills? . The thesis is divided into seven chapters: Chapter 1 is introduction to the subject. Chapter 2 discusses why the author values an artistic outcome over a process based working. The author also observes the motives of amateur actors: what motives can be encouraging or difficult for a director to handle, when the final aim is focused on the artistic outcome. In chapter 3, the author tells about his personality and background as theatre director. In chapter 4, the author shares some of his own motives to make theater and describes his working methods. Chapter 5 provides discussion about an amateur theatre as a working environment in relation to artistically relevant performance. It also discusses the differences between a performance based on a work group and a text-based performance in the amateur theatre. Chapter 6 consists of a process description of one performance, which the author has directed for the amateur theatre. It explains more in depth what it takes to aim at artistically high-level performance in such context. Chapter 7 includes the conclusions about the process description and the thesis subject.

The author concludes that it is possible to achieve artistically high-level performance in the amateur theatre. However, a text-based performance is more difficult to conduct and requires more efforts compared to a performance based on a work group.
