The commissioner of the thesis is a local technology development company that has requested to stay anonymous. The case company uses subcontractors in the beginning of the production process and in post process activities. The case company had issues in their subcontracting process and subcontractor control. This thesis goes through the case company's outsourcing process focusing on local manufacturing service providers. It was known that the case company had issues on work quality received from these local subcontractors, but corrective action had not been taken.
Theoretical research for the thesis was done utilizing industry specific literature and gathering information from various sources. The broad use of books, articles, blogposts and conceptual papers provide a solid foundation for the research.
Objective of the thesis was to identify current outsourcing issues through qualitative research which was conducted across the case company organizational structure. Qualitative research was done by using semi-structured interviews as a research method. The method gives freedom to the author to conduct the interviews and gather relevant information from the case company. The thesis takes a stance on proper outsourcing process and provides a framework contract that can be used in the case company's process.
The thesis was successful of defining the case company's current state and underlying problems in the outsourcing process. The literature research was able to provide approaches for supplier control, quality management and the contract process. The author suggests the case company to familiarize with the proposed framework and methods in their outsourcing process and continue improving their procedures. The case company would benefit from the use of Risk Management Process and can extend the method to Supply Chain Risk Management Process.
