The purpose of this thesis was to examine the effect that plating and visual factors have on attaining consumer loyalty. The objective of the thesis was to obtain an insight about the dish visualization and customer loyalty. The theoretical background for this thesis is on the concept of consumer attraction and loyalty in the restaurant industry, and how dish visual presentation can be a probable action plan that FARO Channel side restaurant can implement when it desires to sustain its consumer ship. Consumer loyalty would offer other benefits such as sustainability of the restaurant, and an opportunity for the restaurant to maintain a market share of consumers within its locality who prefer eating meals at local restaurants.
There are specific research questions that aided this research in canvassing the various aspects of dish visual presentation that might enhance consumer loyalty efforts for FARO Channel side restaurant. They include the effect of food balance in influencing consumer reviews of the food service, the impact of art-inspired food presentation and plain food presentation to consumers, and how consumer expectations on food quality can be assured by dish visual presentation.
From the results, plain presentation of foods resulted in a negative perception of the meals by consumers, while artistic presentation of the meals enhanced the level of appreciation that consumers had on the given dish. Most consumers who were satisfied with the way their meals were presented, and the services that they received from the restaurant, indicated that they would come back to the restaurant. Subsequently, the thesis confirmed that through implementation of a strategy on dish visual presentation that uses artistic features in meal presentation, a restaurant can achieve higher levels of consumer loyalty.
