Tiivistelmä
The commissioner of the thesis was looking into improving parts of their purchasing process, and wished to find out what are the effects of doing so. The part of the process they were specifically looking to improve was the sending of purchase orders, and the receival and verification of the order confirmations.
The empirical part of the thesis was created through qualitative research. For this purpose, inter-views were conducted for relevant employees in the case company. The main purpose of these interviews was to find out about the current situation in the company, to be able to compare it to the results of the research. This was done to find out what the effects of the development task were.
The theoretical research revealed four methods of improving the purchasing process: lean think-ing, reorder point optimization, supplier rationalization, and automation. The interviews on the other hand revealed the purchasing process of the case company, and the current issues they have with the purchasing process, as well as how they chose to solve them, and what is still yet to be solved. The company chose automation as a development method, which resulted in saved time for the purchasing coordinator, which can then be used for other important work instead. Other areas of development were also revealed, which the author will give a recommendation for in the conclusion of the thesis.
