DevOps-toimintojen kehittäminen terveysteknologia-alan yrityksessä

Abstract

Tämä opinnäytetyö toteutettiin NewIcon Oy nimiselle kuopiolaiselle terveysteknologia-alan yritykselle. Työ perustui todelliseen tarpeeseen kehittää yritykseen toimiva ja pitkälle automatisoitu DevOps-toimintamallin mukainen ohjelmistojakelukanava. Tutkimusongelmana työssä oli suunnitella ja kehittää NewIcon Oy:n tarpei-siin soveltuva DevOps-toimintamalli. Työn tavoitteena oli laatia ja osittain myös toteuttaa tämä suunnitelma. Työssä oli lisäksi tarkoitus selvittää, voidaanko DevOps-toimintamallin avulla kehittää yrityksen liiketoimintaa.

Opinnäytetyön toteutus perustui yrityksessä laajasti käytettyyn Lean-ajatteluun, ketteriin kehitysmenetelmiin, DevOps-toimintamalliin sekä ohjelmistokehityksessä käytettäviin työkaluihin ja -menetelmiin. Työ kokonaisuutena oli hyvin laaja, joten toteutuksen kuvaaminen tarkasti kaikilta osa-alueilta ei ollut opinnäytetyön laajuudessa mahdollista. Työn suunnittelussa ja suunnitellussa toteutuksessa hyödynnettiin laajasti yrityksen organisaatioita sekä osaamista eri osa-aluilta. Järjestelmäarkkitehtuurit, liiketoimintaidea, kannattavuuslaskemat sekä DevOps-toimintamalli suunniteltiin työn kirjoittajan toimesta.

Opinnäytetyö kuvaa suunnitelman DevOps-toimintamallin käyttöönotosta ja toteutuksen vaatimista kehitysprojekteista vaadittavine investointeineen. Opinnäytetyön perusteella voidaan rakentaa NewIcon Oy:n tarpeisiin sopiva ohjelmistojakelukanava, jonka avulla on mahdollista tehdä kannattavaa palveluliiketoimintaa. Työn kautta syntyneet laskelmat osoittivat, että palveluliiketoiminnalla voidaan saada aikaan kohtuullisen paljon hyväkatteista liikevaihtoa. Opinnäytetyön aikana toteutettujen kehitysprojektien avulla yrityksen toimintaa saatiin tehostettua ja ohjelmistokehitys- ja huolto-organisaatioiden toiminnassa esiintyvää hukkaa pienenettyä.

This thesis was commissioned by a health technology company from Kuopio called NewIcon Oy. The work was based on a real need to develop a functional and highly automated software delivery pipeline for the company implemented in accordance with the DevOps operating model. The research problem in the work was to find out and develop a DevOps operating model suitable for the needs of NewIcon Oy. The goal of the work was also to prepare and partially implement this plan. In the thesis it was also aimed at finding out whether the DevOps operating model can be used to develop the company's business operations.

The implementation of the thesis was based on the widely used Lean thinking, agile development methods, DevOps model and tools and methods used in the software development. The work as a whole is very extensive, so accurately describing the implementation from all areas was not possible due to the scope of the work. In the planning and planned implementation of the work, the company's organizations and expertise from different areas has been utilized extensively. However, the system architectures, business idea, profitability calculations and company's DevOps operating model were designed in the thesis by the author of the work.

The thesis offers a plan for the implementation of the DevOps operating model and the development projects it requires with the required investments. Based on the thesis, a DevOps operating model suitable for the needs of NewIcon Oy can be built, which makes it possible to run a more profitable service business. The calculations created in the thesis shows that service business can generate a reasonable amount of turnover with a good margin. Through the development projects carried out during the thesis, the company's operations have already been made more efficient, and the the amount of waste occurring in the operations of software development and maintenance organizations has been reduced based on the results obtained.
