The objective of this thesis was to develop a safety culture within Volvo CE Finland and to provide a clear picture of the EHSS Manager's role within the company. Work tasks were documented for 10 weeks in autumn 2022 in this diary-style thesis.
The theoretical framework of the thesis was based on the literature related to safety and communication management, articles as well as on various publications of Finnish authorities in the field of safety and occupational health. Information was also obtained from the legislation. Due to the nature of the thesis method, which was functional with content analysis, the work was also guided by the organization's operating instructions.
Key results included the realization and implementation of measures and plans related to safety culture, including improvements to safety communication and training, as well as the development and introduction of a tool to collect safety observations and near-miss incidents. In addition, safety walks have been started in the organization and the analysis and documentation of safety-related information were improved. The results have improved the organization's safety culture. The report also provides a clear picture of the current duties of the EHSS manager. The recommendations are to strengthen the regular cooperation and dialogue between the management and the occupational health and safety manager and introduce regular safety walks to all locations.
