Occupational wellness is a term which is gaining more popularity and recognition than it has ever before. More employers are realizing that the employee’s mental health is as important as their physical health. Nowadays companies have different benefit packages and possibilities to keep their employees happy and mentally strong. They also perform surveys and quizzes to find out problematic areas inside their companies. These results are often not published to the employees and may not receive the most accurate answers and results.
The goal and purpose of this thesis was to find out some of the problematic areas of Financial Institution X’s workplace through the thesis' author’s and some of his colleagues' eyes. During a 10-week period a journal was kept, where daily occurrences were written down and at the end of each week, compared to published literature and research. Comparing the weekly results with professional literature also helped the author develop himself in work related topics, such as time management and stress. The author also used qualitative research methods and conducted interviews with some of his colleagues, where he asked and tried to find out what changes his colleagues would like to see and what work areas were problematic for them.
During the interviews it turned out that the most common problems among employees were salary, benefits and workload. Suggestions for Financial Institution X are to go over their benefits package and perform changes to how the workload is managed.
