Tiivistelmä
Game development is a very complex process. When trying to create a game, the most important aspect is the creating of the game algorithms and the video game AI. This thesis looks at different types of algorithms in video games, explores helpful and common practices regarding the creation and use of algorithms, focusing on randomness algorithms and behaviour trees in particular. The thesis also describes video game AI, the differences between adaptive and non-adaptive video game AI and explores multiple different methods for creating and implementing adaptive video game AI, as well as the situations and types of video games where each method is the most applicable and useful. Additionally, the thesis contains a collection of useful advice related to the covered topics, which can improve the reader’s understanding of video game AI and offer simple and effective ways to improve one’s own video game AI.
