The purpose of this thesis was to analyze the company in a manner of documentation, modes selection, definitions and current situation in transportation. Objective was to analyze and gain knowledge about transportation, documentation and mode selection and improve these aspects of the company. The goal was to improve transportation efficiency of the case company.
Theory part of the thesis is conducted in three parts; definitions of logistic concepts, transportation modes and documentation and current situation. The main research question is what are the transportation modes and documents used for international car company and how this transportation modes and documentation works.
These subjects are analyzed by the methods of qualitative single case study. The empirical part of thesis is conducted by interviewing CEO and the logistic responsible of the case company. The questions are initiated from the beginning of understanding supply chain till the current situation of the company which includes basic definitions of the logistics and transportation, modes, documentation. The results showed that most of the terms are answered according to business activities and practical side of the logistic. Logistic description terms were limited only few definitions of transportation were answered according to theories. The documentation need to be used is CMR document as international way bill and transportation modes are sea transport and road transport. The company could improve their activities by considering training the current personnel, market researches in local area and gather more knowledge about transportation. This thesis shows what to reconsider in the process of transportation for the company.
