Tiivistelmä
Human resource management (HRM) is undervalued in Finland, especially among information technology companies in Oulu area and this affects to the team building and the wellbeing of the employees. Management should start to understand more the potential of human resources and use them as gaining the competitive advantage. Purpose of this research the was to examine what team building and development operations will have the best possible effect when maximizing the output of the team and to understand what team building means and to give help for team building from wellbeing point of view. Certainly team building is needed to perform without affecting negatively to the wellbeing but rather simultaneously enhance the wellbeing and work satisfaction of the employees. Theories and research are based on existing literature, researches, journals and articles of relevant areas.
In this research has been also evaluated by interviews the status of team building in different companies, and by questionaire were evaluated that what kind of recreation activities people themselves would like to have.

One important part of this research is ‘challenge tournament’ which have been developed during the research work. In this tournament people can challenge themselves and with team mates they can challenge other teams. Purpose of tournament is to enhace the work satisfaction and thus work wellbeing. During the research work tournament events has been evaluated and analysed and the result has been used to improve the tournament.
This research includes also satisfaction survey of one team from two consecutive years and also evaluation of what actions of team leaders’ affected to the results. Unfortunately this part is company confidential and is not possible to publish.

As a result of the study, it was showed that with proper human resource management activities it is possible to enhance work satisfaction. As a result of the study also further research subjects were discovered.
