This thesis is a case study about search engine optimization for a small renovations company with a limited budget. the main objective is to develop a plan to increase the search engine rankings for said company, and to increase their business by getting more customers through search engines. The focus is the customers around Oulu, so local SEO plays a big role. Since the business’ website is one of the first places customers go to, it is important the website and its content are high quality.
SEO is technique that focuses on increasing the rankings of your website in different search engines. Search engines are used to learn more about different topics. Through literature and qualitative interviews, this thesis focuses on understanding the role and benefits of SEO and how to use it for the benefit of your business.
The study shows that the important thing about creating a successful website and having good search engine visibility is to build a website that has good information on the relevant topic and covers all the chosen keywords well, but without stuffing them everywhere. The study also tells us to remain up to date on your backlinks, and on the updates of Google's algorithms that give the rankings for different websites.
