Tiivistelmä
The main aim of this thesis was to calculate the carbon footprint of construction materials used to build the
premises of the J5L Production Oy company using an appropriate carbon footprint calculation tool. The final
value of carbon footprint emissions (tons of carbon dioxide equivalent) had to be placed in ERP software
which is utilized to run the company.
To accomplish the set task, relevant theoretical concepts, like life cycle assessment of a building, basics of civil
engineering, carbon footprint, etc. were studied. Moreover, main principles and rules from acknowledged
standards and methodologies regarding life cycle assessment were considered and congregated to design a
new tool that would suit the needs of the customer.
As a result of this thesis, a list of assessed parts of the factory premises and a calculation of the carbon footprint for construction materials were made. Furthermore, the tool satisfying the needs of the customer is presented in the thesis.
