Sustainability plays an important role in the future of the well-being of lives all over the world. Most people believe sustainability only effects the environment, but in order to achieve ultimate sustainability three different factors are needed to be met. Social, ecological and economical sustainability must all be taken into consideration to achieve true sustainability.
The purpose of this thesis is to help Green Company Effect build an engaged, loyal community on their social media platform. Green Company Effect is a company that promotes and shares organizations’ actions towards sustainability on their own social media platform, to create awareness and a community that surrounds sustainability. The intentions of the thesis are to help Green Company Effect to understand how to utilize social media, why social media users use social media and how consumers act currently.
A questionnaire was conducted for the empirical data, which was distributed on the researcher’s Facebook and Instagram profile. The aim for the questionnaire was to understand the level of knowledge social media users had about sustainability, how and why they use social media and their thoughts about learning more about sustainability. Results from the questionnaire indicated that the need for more awareness of sustainability is needed and that people are interested to learn more about sustainability because it is important for the future.
