Tiivistelmä
This thesis is commissioned by fitness center Ryhmäliikuntakeskus HyväFiilis. Case company has been operating since 2010 in Tornio and has significant role and presence in local fitness industry.
This thesis focuses to find out what are the basic elements for commissioner to expand its services and product range online by creating functional web store. Objective is to find out the essentials how to create and run a web store without previous experience on managing online shop.

Being commissioner’s regular customer for years has given valuable knowledge on fitness industry and business. Subject of this thesis originates from a casual conversation with the owner regarding fitness center as a business and its expansion opportunities. Discussion quickly lead into potential of digitalization and how commissioner could benefit from it by creating own online shop.

Research methods consist of quantitative methods, secondary research and empirical data. Two customer surveys were implemented to collect data. In addition to surveys, research was conducted by utilizing literature sources, articles, websites and reports. Research of this work was made by focusing on existing customer base as a target group.

Ideally results of this research will be utilized by the case company in order to expand their local as well as non-local significance and gain enterprise’s revenue and profitability. In the future it could be researched if case company HyväFiilis could also target their online shop to other customer groups in addition to their own existing customer base. By targeting different customer groups outside of local region, new opportunities could occur and enable enterprise to enhance itself from regular fitness center towards commercial and digital company having customers nationwide.
