The purpose of the thesis was to strengthen the processes of Financial Management in the case company’s nursing home departments. The commissioner of this thesis is a rather big firm which is heavily focused on care business. The case company was willing to stay anonymous. The research & development task focused on conducting a needs assessment and identifying problem areas in Financial Management processes.
The target group of the research was especially the nursing home managers of the case company and the purpose was to help the managers in their daily work. The primary objective was to obtain valuable information on how to improve cooperation between nursing homes and Financial Management and reduce the communication gap. The secondary objective was also to identify the biggest problems in financial management processes where nursing home managers specifically seek improvements.
The theoretical background of the thesis consists of accounting as a concept and offers a deep description on the Financial Management processes. The theoretical background also includes questions asking models and utilization of SPIN-model. A qualitative research approach was chosen as a research method, because the aim of the study was to target employees' own experiences of financial management processes and current working methods. Microsoft Teams- application was used as an interview tool.
The functional part of this study contained the conducted needs assessment. Challenges in financial management processes were identified and suggestions for improvements and development areas were displayed. The biggest suggestions for improvement concerned employee orientations and streamlining the invoicing process. In addition, increasing the interaction between financial management and nursing homes was seen as an important part of the development project.
