Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis was to study the markets of Finland and Sweden concerning oxygen concentrators, a product that was very topical due to the COVID19-pandemic. The research was commissioned by Screentec Oy which is a company located in Oulu. Screentec Oy was unaware of the markets for this type of product, their characteristics, profitability, possible buyers and competitors. The market research was conducted with aim to provide the case company better understanding of the markets and providing knowledge on them to help make internal decisions on the subject. The objective of this study was to identify the markets, to assess whether market entry was reasonably justified and to create an extensive description of the target markets.
This thesis is a qualitative case study, which could be partly considered a feasibility study carried out utilizing the desk research method. Included source material would be both literature and electric sources. The thesis acts as a preparatory study of the markets providing Screentec Oy with information on the markets and giving an impression on what awaits in case the company decides to enter the markets in Finland or Sweden. Further in addition to providing the characteristics of the specified markets for Screentec Oy the hope of this thesis would be to provide answers to questions that relate to market size, defining the traits of the markets, possible compensations on the products, market saturation and regulations, competitors and possible avenues for operations. This thesis does not delve into legal aspects of the markets.
During the research process the author reached out to anonymous representatives from the different health care districts within Finland and Sweden to gather information that could be not found from literary and electric sources. This information is used throughout the market research section where relevant and adds credibility to the outcome of the market research. Even though the author only received reply from a minority of representatives, the results can be considered reliable and useful for Screentec.
In conclusion the results of this thesis are applicable for use by Screentec Oy in their decision-making as supportive material regarding further actions on internationalization, market entry and product diversification provided by the opportunity to distribute oxygen concentrators within Finland, Sweden and possible even other countries.
