Logistics operations, including inbound and outbound functions, are a critical aspect of any business. It aims to effectively manage the movement of goods from the starting point to the final stages of customer consumption. Improving these processes directly impacts on the success of a business’s whole performance.
The aim of this thesis was to be improving the inbound and outbound logistics operations at Company X. To achieve this, the thesis aimed to identify the current challenges at the company and create solutions to address these gaps.
To build a theoretical background, topics of inbound and outbound logistics and their importance were explored in detail. For the practical aspect, challenges in inbound and outbound operations at Company X were found through open interviews with key department managers and team leaders, as well as using the author’s insights and experience.
As a result of the analysis, six main gaps were found. Four of the challenge for example, improving the Sale Location and signage in the logistics were successfully resolved using the practical methods identified in this study. The other challenges such us accurate tracking of cargo and coaching the outbound team in customer care were addressed by creating recommendations for the logistics Team Leader to study and implement in the future.
