Tiivistelmä
Despite being unrenewable and unsustainable source of energy that has resulted in the unsustainable emission of greenhouse gases in Cameroon's power sector, fossil fuels have been the country's main source of energy supply and a significant source of foreign exchange earnings for Cameroonians. Due to the significant problem of power irregularities over the years, the majority of business establishments and affluent residential circles install costly electricity generators because of the nation's constant power outages. This study aims to put into practice the new energy policy that European nations have adopted in order to support energy security and sufficiency.
The research explores a substantiated appropriate legal analysis, comparative analysis of the legal framework for promoting renewable energy in Cameroon and European Union. The study utilises secondary sources, such as journals, to gain useful insights to suggest the need to use the lessons learnt from EUs regulatory policy and legal framework on renewable energy to guarantee energy sufficiency and security in Cameroon. Since energy has evolved from meeting household and industrial demands to preserving energy sources for sustainability, energy security has posed a challenge to social and economic development despite clear signs that fossil fuel should be replaced in the power sector.
The aim of the study is to put an end to worries about inefficient energy use in order to advance sustainability and energy efficiency. The report promotes strict implementation of energy regulatory rules with incentives for the use of renewable energy sources in Cameroon and EU among other reforms, and suggests a cogent legislative framework on renewable energy.
