Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis is to produce a guide for the intramuscular administration of the Zypadhera injection in a mental health rehabilitation unit. The aim of the thesis is to promote the safe administration of the Zypadhera injection within the mental health rehabilitation unit. Esperi Koti Rehabia commissioned this thesis and is the beneficiary for whom the guide was made. The development task involves producing an evidence-based, easy-to-follow guide for the safe administration of the Zypadhera injection, with a specific focus on the ventrogluteal injection site, which has been shown to be safer than the dorsogluteal site. The guide also emphasizes the importance of proper post-injection monitoring, as outlined in current clinical recommendations. The theoretical framework of the thesis is based on existing literature and guidelines related to mental health promotion and safe injection techniques. The framework provides a strong knowledge base for the creation of the guide and helps ensure that the content aligns with the latest best practices in the field.
Methodologically, the thesis follows a functional approach, which involves both a review of scientific literature and collaboration with the commissioning organization to tailor the guide to the specific needs of the unit. The development process involved integrating key concepts from the literature into a practical format that is both clear and concise for healthcare professionals. The key result of this thesis is the guide for the administration of the Zypadhera injection. The guide incorporates evidence-based recommendations, such as the preference for ventrogluteal injections, as well as post-injection monitoring protocols. The guide has been designed to be user-friendly and accessible, ensuring that it can be easily integrated into the daily routines of the staff. Based on feedback and evaluation, it is concluded that the guide meets the objectives set for the guide although it’s effectiveness could have been improved by organizing a dedicated training day for the unit’s staff.
