Social media marketing has significantly increased in the past years. It helped businesses to reach a larger audience, making it easier to promote directly to customers and interact with them, as customers spend most of their time on various social media platforms. With the im-mense popularity of platforms like Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, businesses must recognize the need to rethink and adapt their advertising strategies.
This study explores social media marketing strategies for small businesses, focusing on Samba Café, a small coffee shop in Oulu. As digital platforms influence significantly consumer behavior, small businesses like Samba Café need strategies that enhance visibility and engage customers effectively. Samba Café uses Instagram and Facebook as its advertising platforms. The café currently has a total of 635 followers across both platforms. The key question is: how can Samba Café expand its visibility and achieve engagement by utilizing the larger user base on social media platforms?
The study discusses social media marketing and various tools which can use to expand the au-dience, achieve brand visibility, and engage customers. The theoretical phase covers social me-dia marketing, beginning with outbound and inbound marketing and their differences, then delv-ing deeper into the existing platforms, customer engagement, and strategies for creating visibility on social media. In the final theoretical phases, different marketing methods for reaching cus-tomers will be explored, as well as how to implement these methods into a business's marketing strategy.
This research employed qualitative methods to analyse social media data on Instagram and con-ducted semi-structured interviews with three followers of the coffees Instagram channels and another with a digital marketing expert.
The study outlines efficient strategies to improve social media performance for small businesses. These include investing in an organized professional appearance, diversifying post types, and using targeted advertising to reach new audience. It emphasizes regular interaction with follow-ers to build brand trust and suggests that Samba Café should continuously update its strategies according to the latest social media trends and customer preferences.
