The objective of this thesis was to analyze and identify the European Union regulations related to cosmetics safety and Korean cosmetics import processes to the EU. The purpose was to provide insights and facilitate training material of best practices on ensuring the product safety and other regulatory compliance matters that company X can use for building their in-house training program. Company X will be able to cultivate store staff as cosmetics experts by providing professional systematic education to all employees. Furthermore, this thesis aimed for improvement of customer service quality, increasing sales and brand loyalty, boosting competitiveness, strengthening employee competencies and opportunities.
The EU’s Cosmetic Regulation No 1223/2009 defines all the processes and compliances regarding the cosmetics imported to the EU consumer’s markets. Korean cosmetics must follow the given procedures, and it is crucial for Korean cosmetics store employees to learn and acknowledge the regulatory processes for ensuring the best practices in the industry. The EU’s Cosmetic Regulation No 1223/2009 consists of clear instructions on the Responsible Person (RP), cosmetics labeling and packaging requirements, as well as the Cosmetic Products Notification Portal (CPNP) procedures.
The survey results showed that the employees are interested in learning more about the EU cosmetics safety regulations and Korean cosmetics’ ingredients and efficacy. The survey’s open questions revealed that the employees recognized the importance of the in-house training program, and this kind of training would help them grow in their professional careers by improving their knowledge on regulatory and compliance topics. The employees believed that this would have a positive impact on sales performance as well, which would benefit company X too. Based on employee surveys and a pilot workshop, an in-house training system was designed, with further development planned for 2025 to adapt to the evolving cosmetics industry. In the future, it could be interesting to test and modify the in-house training system more so that it would stay up to date to the company X’s needs and further possible projects.
