There is a lot of literature about the customer management and some of the principles can be adjusted to fit the good principles of supplier or vendor management. This research is done for an organization, that desires to improve and synchronize the management of their vendors in their supply chain.
This research uses qualitative method. Benchmark interviews are used to understand how vendors and risks are managed in other organizations. The main results of the interviews were discovery of five different elements which has big impact on the vendor management. Conclusion of this research emphasizes in the need of proper roles and responsibilities in the organization, importance of identifying and mitigating risks through vendor management.
Main results of this research are vendor management guidelines for the case organization how to mitigate risks, archive competitive advantage and how to provide best possible value for its customers. This requires well thought procurement processes, vendor base management, that is communicated through the organization and endorsed by the top management.
